How can we help you?

What if Google Play Services is not available on my Android device?

OpusChat uses Google Play Services on Android devices for notifications (including call alerts), enhanced location services (Google Maps and providing the devices's location accurately) and account recovery using Google.

OpusChat will continue to function on devices without Google Play Services. In order for the device to receive notifications and call alerts, please follow the instructions below for the required settings.

  1. Notification settings: Please go to System Settings > Apps > Manage Apps/ App Management > OpusChat > Notifications > Please allow all notification settings to be “ON”.
  2. Battery Optimisation: Open OpusChat > Settings > Background App Usage > Turn Off Battery Optimisation > Please allow for all background activities. Please also see the below screenshots sample.

  3. Mobile data usage: Open OpusChat > Settings > Background App Usage > Allow Mobile Data Usage > Settings > Please allow for background data. Please also see the below screenshots sample.

  4. App Auto Launch: Please go to System Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > Auto launch/ App launch > OpusChat > Please allow auto launch on boot and run in background. Please also see the below screenshots sample.

Mapbox will be used instead of Google Maps, with less accurate location for the device.

For account recovery, Google will not be available, but Facebook/ Email/ Phone number will still be available.

For the best experience, it is highly recommended that OpusChat is running on devices with Google Play Services.

**Remarks: Some devices that are not originally equipped with Google Play services may still not be able to receive push notifications for incoming messages and calls after self-installation.
