How can we help you?

Switching from a voice call to a video call

You can switch to a video call when you are in a voice call. You can send a request to your friend to switch to a video call. Once your friend accepts the request, the video call will start.

During a voice call, tap “Video” icon > “Switch” *Speaker will turned on by default
Once you request the switch to video call, the camera on your device will be turned on and only shown on your device. Your contact will not be able to see you.
If your friend declines the switch request, the call will stay as a voice call.

When you receive a request to switch to video call:
For Android devices / unlocked iOS devices
When your friend initiates the switch request, your front camera will be turned on automatically, but your contact will not be able to see you until you accept the request. You can either tap “Switch” or “Decline” to accept or reject the switch request. Speaker will be turned on after you accept the video call request.

For locked iOS devices
When your device is locked, you will hear a beeping sound and there will be a push notification for video call request. You can tap on the push notification / OpusChat icon on the call screen to enter OpusChat (you will need to enter the passcode of your device if it is passcode protected). After you open OpusChat, you can either tap “Switch” or “Decline” to accept or reject the switch request. Speaker will be turned on after you accept the video call request.

You will be prompted to grant the permissions to camera and microphone the first time you make or receive a video call.

Note: The quality of the video call will depend on your network connection. Both you and your contact should use the most up-to-date version of OpusChat for a good quality video call.
